Cashmere is extremely soft wool from the cashmere goat, which lives in the area around Tibet and Mongolia in the mountainous Western Himalayas. Cashmere wool is very fine and long-fibered, which means that this type of wool does not scratch but is extra soft and luxurious. Cashmere fibers are very special and work by insulating when it is cold and cooling when it is warm.
The cashmere goat has adapted over time to the climatic conditions, where there is a big difference in temperature throughout the year. They live at altitudes of up to 4500 meters and therefore develop the fine and warming undercoat, which is what is extracted - by hand - for further processing.
Cashmere wool can only be produced in the area around Cashmere due to the climate - and it can take up to three days to fine-comb a single goat. Cashmere can be used alone with great advantage - but is also fantastic to mix with silk, which gives an elegant weave with the same good properties.
Cashmere is unusually wonderfully soft and warm, as the fibers are hollow, and it is precisely this property that has made Cashmere the most exclusive and sought-after wool in the world. Cashmere is mainly used for knitwear in the form of cardigans, sweaters, blouses, trousers, dresses, scarves, and ponchos.
How do you best care for cashmere?
Cashmere can usually be machine washed on the wool wash program. It is important to use a good detergent designed for silk/wool.
Cashmere is, however, self-cleaning, so you don't need to wash it as often - instead, you can air cashmere outside.
When cashmere pills, gently use a comb or shaver designed for wool maintenance.
